How we work has changed dramatically this year. The tech driving virtual events today still needs creative skill and stagecraft to bring great content and compelling stories to life, and to deliver critical transformational experiences. be-good devised a series of solutions for the LinkedIn EMEAL Agency & Channel Sales Team, to deliver a vital shift from passive meetings to participative events online.
LinkedIn had pivoted seamlessly to the latest practical, virtual tools to support home working around the world, but too much dull, transactional, screen work needed to be balanced with energetic interaction and team work. After 5 months in lock-down, their Agency & Channel Sales Team Offsite beckoned. The constraints of COVID19 together with the geographical spread of the team across 5 countries, meant usual their uplifting and productive annual physical gathering was impossible. So, the three-day participative meeting needed to be reimagined for these virtual times.
The LinkedIn leadership were worried that team members might feel isolated, detached and that their hard work was going unnoticed. They wanted to bring the team culture and spirit to the top of their inboxes, lift morale, share insights on the past year and deliver the strategy for the year ahead.
be-good were asked to concept and run a high energy, motivational and joyful event around a core business agenda. We needed to transport participants away from the endless inbox and screen calls and cut through the digital wallpaper to create an engaging space for the group to gather and build the next 6 months together.
We worked closely with LinkedIn to profile and understand their diverse team. We asked them to reflect on their home working experiences and share their own tips for physical and mental respite. Through this research and discussion, we identified common themes that connected the group, and built an agenda around these, whilst balancing on and off-screen moments: time away from screens and home offices was key to delivering this successful virtual engagement.
Our pre-event communication plan set a collaborative tone, generating anticipation and dialogue for an entirely new form of offsite. We designed Mystery Box deliveries, prompting sensory responses and unifying moments, sharing content around common themes before each meeting. Social Media channels and hashtags generated insight and fun where the team came together to share content and banter.
For the event itself, we broke the wider programme into hourly screen sessions spread over 3 days, with contrasting content and a deliberate balance between the business agenda, chat, pre-recorded material and offline activities to raise energy and focus. We curated video and audio from guest contributions, programmed brief clear keynote content with host and guest speakers, tabled breakouts, and participative chat. Tools and exercises were designed around wellbeing and fun, and to encourage time for reflection and reconnection with the outdoors. All facilitated with the bells and whistles of simple, easy to use virtual event platforms.
The event has continued to live on. The team are sharing ideas, assets and memories and can continue to support each other on the event social media platforms. The diverse conversations and channels we opened, continue to bring the event aims to the fore and keep the remote team connected.
